Written and directed Andrew Niccol, the film Gattaca shows a society set in the future where genetic selection is a bases for all human life. Genetics are chosen by parents to select an unflawed child. The repetition of these “perfect genetics” is what all parents desire for their children in this future. This idea is shown through modernist architecture and creates a visual representation of perfection . Modernist architecture follows the ideals of modernism. It displays a simple but futuristic way of showing architecture. Using glass, steel and concrete modernist architecture is displaying a “perfect building” but lacks individuality and humanity. In the film it helps us relate to the flaws of being unflawed. Both Modernist architecture and gattaca’s genetic selection is an ideal for this society, but Vincent a main character in the film uses his imperfection to strengthen his humanity
